The story of Red Rock Macadamias

For over 150 years, six generations of Klotz farmers have called this patch of Queensland home.

The story of Red Rock Macadamias begins in 1873, when the Klotz family settled in Bundaberg and began working the land just below the Hummock, the remnants of an ancient volcano.

The deep red krasnozem soil here is some of the most fertile in Australia, and it’s shaped everything we’ve grown since.

For over 150 years, six generations of Klotz farmers have called this patch of Queensland home. We started with sugarcane, moved through a wide range of small crops, and in 2006, made a bold shift: we planted our first macadamias. It wasn’t a trend, it was a long-term commitment to growing something special, something that reflected our values and the potential of this land.

Our first year of macadamias

We planted 25,000 trees on our farm that first year. It didn’t take long for us to see we were onto something - the trees thrived, and so did our passion for producing the best macadamias possible. In the years that followed, we expanded our plantings, refined our methods, and invested heavily in infrastructure to ensure we could handle, process, and deliver our product with the same care we gave to growing it.

Innovating into the future

Along the way, we’ve faced our share of challenges - none more so than the price crash of 2022, which made it clear that the traditional market model wasn’t working for high-quality growers like us. Instead of compromising, we chose to double down on quality and control. We built our own facilities, developed export pathways, and began working directly with partners who valued traceability, consistency, and craftsmanship.

In collaboration with our select grower partners, we proudly produce approximately 3,000 tonnes of the finest macadamias each year—a figure that continues to grow as like-minded producers embrace our vision for excellence and refinement.
